The pectorals are two portions of muscle, the upper and the lower, the upper muscle is connected to the shoulder and collar bone, the lower connects the rib cage to the top of the arm and shoulders.

A well defined and shaped chest is a must have for the bodybuilder as it is one of the most highly visible muscle groups, chest muscles are also exercised during swimming, bat sports, canoeing even opening a bottle.

Theres a few items that you will need to develop to be able to have a fully built quality chest, they are as follows

  1. A large rib cage
  2. Thick pectoral muscle mass
  3. Development in inside, outside, upper and lower pecs
  4. Striations must be visible when the pecs are flexed
  5. Enough muscle mass so it doesnt dissapear when you raise your arms higher than your shoulders
  6. Definate ridge between both upper and lower
  7. The front on square look

Theres 2 main ways to build muscle in the chest area, flys, a movement that pulls the arms across the chest and pressing, pushing weight away from the chest as in bench presses, theres many a bodybuilder that doesnt need to do to many exercises for the chest and find that bench presses alone is enough to hit each area suffuciently so it can grow

A good bodybuilder uses the full range of motion during his chest workout, ideally you need to lower the bar until you feel the bar just touching the skin lightly then without hesitation start pushing it back up to lock the elbows but not holding it there to rest, to cheat at the end of your workout you can bounce off the chest and rest while extended for a few seconds.
